This Weekend's Racing

Really looking forward to racing Round 3 of the BMBS National XC series this weekend at Hopton Forest. Not raced there before but I have heard it's nice and hilly so will hopefully play to my strengths :)

The bike has been spruced up with some new custom sponsor decals....

....and is currently with Hot Pursuit having a new set of super strong and lightweight Mavic Crossmax wheels fitted....sweet!

Bring on the weekend!

Welsh XC Champs, 19 May, Margam Park, Port Talbot

Great day's racing in Wales - warm sunshine, dry super fast trails and a podium result...it doesn't get much better than that - 2nd Junior after a crappy start and first lap crash!

and a nice haul of points helps towards my current BC Ranking....stoked!

South West XC Champs, 12 May, Newnham Park, Plymouth

After suffering a few dodgy results of late, mostly due to mechanicals, it was real nice to smash out a convincing victory on a super gnarly technical course with plenty of serious climbs and descents. Once again Jay and Maddie from Fully Sussed put together a fab event and a brilliantly testing course using a lot of the features (incl. the notorious 'Bear Pit') from when Newnham last hosted an XC World Cup.

Saturday evening played host to the now familiar Hot Laps race which is a short course sprint lap (think World Cup XCE) where the idea is to simply post the quickest time. It's a great fun event and with no limit to the allowed number of laps (assuming your legs can take the beasting) and it quickly becomes addictive trying to beat the best time.

I did a few slow practice laps then headed out on a quick one, got three quarters of the way around and was then held up :( So I waited for a bit and then headed out on a second hot lap and managed a respectable 61secs. Although this wasn't the fastest time of the day (Dex managed a 58secs) it was enough to lead the Juniors with the next quickest Junior posting a 67sec lap - so I decided to call it a day and save my legs for the main event on Sunday.

Come Sunday and the Juniors were gridded with the Elites and Experts for the main race. I got a great start and headed up the hill out of the main arena right behind lead rider Dexter Hurlock. I settled into a good rhythm and it was all going well until I crashed and bent my brake lever which meant my rear brake was then dragging, which was pretty annoying, but I continued on in strong form.

It was a long race with the Juniors completing a full 5 laps with the Elites and Experts and in the end I took the Junior category win by 15mins! and finished 3rd in the overall behind Expert category riders Dexter Hurlock and James Porter.

So, a double weekend Junior victory - Hot Laps and XC Race + South West Cross Country Junior Champion + leading the South West XC Series in Junior.....super happy!

Thanks to Jay and Maddie at Fully Sussed for organising another great event and thanks to Hot Pursuit Cycles and Bike Glove Store for all their support and to my coach Roy at EliteVelo.

Sunny Bank Holiday Weekend - No racing....just riding for fun

With no racing planned for the weekend and the forecast set to be sun, sun, and more sun me, Tom, Neil and Matt hatched a plan to meet up with Harry Foreshaw for some trail shredding fun on Saturday on the Quantocks.

With the new Hot Pursuit store opening in Kingsteignton on Saturday we all decided to meet up there and check out the new place.....

.....WOW! it's really smart - Chris and the guys have worked super hard to create a fab new environment which is way larger, brighter and more spacious than the previous store. Lots of great stuff on display so get down there soon and check it out!

Once Matt arrived we piled all the gear into his van and headed up the M5 to Triscombe.

Was an awesome days riding - big thanks to Harry! He led us around some rad trails which were so much fun to ride, especially as the sun was shining and everything was dusty, fast and loose!

Was really nice to not be racing for a change - when you can just kick back and enjoy the moment. Most fun days riding I've had in quite a while!

Whilst the sun was shining we spent some time cleaning up the Scott Scale ready for next weekends racing........can't wait!
